One needs to understand the meaning of many terminologies involved. One must master all these aspects to better pet fish care. Besides one must have enough patience if one wants to have an aquarium.
For beginners, the recommended fish is none other than goldfish. Because these are available in plenty. They look very pretty and make the fish tank colorful. They are easy to maintain. The aquarium must be kept in good condition. Whatever may the fish that it is going to have. Be it goldfish or dangerous and aggressive piranhas. There are certain procedures one needs to follow daily and weekly basis. One may see the goldfish in small containers or bowls either in the cinema or in real life. This is a very bad idea. In a small container, the goldfish will only survive for short time. The reason is faster disease spread.
If you want to have an aquarium, you must consider a minimum of ten-gallon water with a filtration facility. The filter is the most important component in the aquarium. This agitates the water’s surface thereby providing more oxygen to the water. Hence the fish can use this oxygen for their survival. If more space is provided for the goldfish, it will swim more and remain healthy and happy. The water space provided must be in accordance with the number of goldfish you want to have. More fishes require more space.
Make a visit to the nearby aquarium shop. Try and clear your doubt as much as possible. Take his advice in starting the aquarium. He will be glad to help you as you are going to provide business to him. Don’t plan an aquarium more than your requirement. Let the aquarium be simple and small. Inform the shop owner, of the number of fish you want to have. Inform the space available in your house and the budget allotted for the same.
The aquarium’s accessories are aplenty. Be choosy about them. Buy only what is required of you. It is better to do some studying before buying anything. Be sure that well water is available. Don’t depend on tap water. The tap water may contain chlorine or ammonia used for purifying the water to make it germ-free. Both ammonia and chlorine are harmful to fish. The chlorinated water may even kill the fish instantly. These few products are available in the market and can be purchased and used as directed. This will remove the chlorine present in the water, thereby allowing the fish to survive. You need to add things that help the fish form a slime coat.
The tick that is present on fish that are under stress needs to be cleared using tick removal medications. One can use reverse osmosis purified or distilled water. But you need to use the recommended additives to meet the mineral requirement. The filters of the water tank must be checked once a week. The filter needs to be rinsed in de-chlorinated water. It is superior to use distilled water for this purpose. At times you may find snails sticking to the filter.
Just remove them at the time of weekly checking but don’t crush them. Some have the habit of allowing the snail to remain in the water tank. This is not recommended as the snails will feed on the plant material in the aquarium. The temperature of the aquarium is also very important. The temperature should remain constant as much as possible. You may need a thermostat for this. You may also need a water heater to use in case of emergency.
