Goldfish Care
The Ranchu goldfish might possibly be the funniest looking of the goldfish breed. Shaped a lot like the lion head goldfish, the Ranchu has growths on the top of its head.
These make for a very intense impact on viewers and aquarium owners. The body of the Ranchu is very similar to an egg and they can actually get quite round. The colors vary of all the spam goldfish colors orange, red, and white known as calico.

Tank and Aquarium Sizes?
Since being goldfish, these fish love large tanks and aquariums. Too many people think that goldfish are like fish bowls! A ten-gallon tank should be a minimum for this breed of goldfish. What happens is the amount of water surface area amounts to how much oxygen the water inside of the tank is getting. So do the math on the aquarium you plan on using.
Because these fish are somewhat round like an egg, it makes it tough for them to swim as well as other goldfish. They are one of the slower goldfish classes and can be tank mates with other slower ones like it. The lion head for example would make for a perfect tank mate. Because both of them swim at around the same speed, one of the fish doesn’t wind up eating all the food because they are a faster swimmer. Equal swim Speed is important for tank mates to share in common.
Where to Buy Ranches?
Your common pet stores may not have the Ranchu goldfish just because of how rare they are. Online pet stores are becoming more and more popular and you can be guaranteed one mailed to your house there. Or if you want to find one at a pet store, just keep visiting different ones, and hopefully, you find some. They’re going to cost you around $20 U.S.
The Ranchu is to be considered part of the delicate category of goldfish and takes more work to care for than common goldfish. The water needs to be filtered well without too much current. Its large size and poor eye site don’t mix to create an agile fish. You also want to feed it food that sinks in water so surface feeding doesn’t occur (swallowing air). You can also feed it fruits and vegetables to boost some nutritional value in its diet.
The water temperature should be around 67 – 77 F roughly. If you can’t hold that solid then go buy a tank heater with an adjustable setting. What I am saying is, these fish are higher maintenance than your average fourteen cents goldfish. Take care and enjoy aquarium living.
