What You Should Know about Tropical Fish Keeping
The most important feature when it comes to tropical fish keeping is the beauty of the fish. Unlike other common fishes, the tropical fish are generally more alluring and appealing. There are also some other plain tropical fish, but these fish still have some special features that make them special. In short, tropical fish keeping is something anyone can be really proud of.
Many people say that tropical fish keeping is generally tough, but if you were to ask a professional who has been rearing these fish for more than a couple of years; they would say that it is not at all. Tropical fish keeping is indeed an easy, or to be precise, a moderate job, if you know how to do it properly.
Basically, the common tasks of taking care of fish would normally apply here as well. There’s nothing special about that, except that this type of fish generally needs more attention and care; simply because they are from a different environment.
The most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to tropical fish keeping is always the water and the environment in the aquarium. Water here does not only refer to the cleanliness, but also refers to the quality, the composition, the health and many other factors. The water needs proper oxygenation, because by nature, tropical fish live in places with high levels of oxygen, unlike other common aquarium fish.
Apart from the water, the temperature and other elements such as pH reading, oxygen content, ammonia levels, nitrate levels and salinity of water readings need to be consistently monitored.
Food and Feeding Requirements
Tropical fish keeping is not hard when it comes to feeding as well. You basically need to provide a proper diet that has 30 to 36 per cent of protein, 10 per cent of fat and a lower amount of carbohydrates. Since the tropical fish are from warmer parts of the world, particularly in South America and Central Africa, such as freshwater rivers and lakes, most of their food supply sold everywhere also is commonly similar to those found in the lakes.
Most of the time, you can find canned flaked fish foods specially produced for tropical fish keeping purposes. These canned foods have all the required nutrients in a balanced form, and you do not need to provide anything extra than the general feeding doses marked on the packaging.
